How To: Bug Specimen Diy Two Ways
These bug specimens are perfect for your Halloween decor because they are gorgeous, creepy, easy, and budget friendly. Here's how to make two different bug specimens.
🪲
The first diy is a dollartree diy! I made these bug specimens with bugs from the toy section and candle holders. The candle holders are easy enough to break and it leaves you with the perfect stand for your bugs. I used gold spray paint, E6000, hot glue, and a tiny bit of felt to assemble them. They are perfect for any mad scientist decor or witchy display. I placed the shorter bug display under a thrifted cloche to complete the look. Fabulous!

The second way to make the bug specimens is with Dollar Tree bugs and thrifted frames. Again, I went with a gold and black theme to coordinate with my goth glam decor. I wrapped the glass of the frames with peel and stick velvet (my favorite thing on this planet) and glued the bugs to the velvet. These are so easy! I love the result!

Creating DIY bug specimens is a fantastic way to add unique, creepy-cute elements to your Halloween decor. Leveraging affordable materials such as Dollar Tree toy bugs and thrifted items like candle holders and picture frames allows you to craft eye-catching displays without breaking the bank. The first method utilizes toy bugs and candle holders to form standing bug specimens. Candle holders are easy to break apart to create bug stands, which you then spray paint gold for an elegant touch. Using E6000 adhesive and hot glue ensures a strong hold, while adding felt helps with stability and finish. Placing these bug stands under a thrifted glass cloche elevates the look, creating a mad scientist or witchy cabinet of curiosities vibe perfect for seasonal decor. The second method involves attaching Dollar Tree bugs to velvet-lined picture frames. Wrapping frame glass with peel-and-stick velvet adds texture and a gothic flair, especially when paired with gold and black themes. This approach is quick and requires minimal materials, yet yields a high-impact result suitable for tomb-like wall art or shelf decorations. Incorporating thrifted finds like candle holders and frames enhances sustainability and gives your projects a personalized touch. Gold spray paint complements the creepy aesthetic while adding a glamorous finish that ties into goth glam decor. Additionally, the use of peel-and-stick velvet—a favored crafting material—provides an adhesive, luxurious backdrop for displaying bugs. When assembling these crafts, prioritize strong but clean adhesives like E6000 for durability, especially if you want your decorations to last beyond the Halloween season. Whether for an eerie sitting room display or an attention-grabbing entryway piece, these bug specimen DIYs blend creepiness with craftiness in a stylish, budget-conscious way. These creative bug specimen crafts allow for customization and encourage experimenting with various insects, colors, and decorative elements to suit your personal theme or party style. They’re ideal for DIY enthusiasts eager to combine thrifty finds with crafty innovation to celebrate the spooky season with flair.
