I am so proud to say I ran my first Half Marathon!
I put in a lot of training and hard work. I almost couldn’t run this because 3 weeks before my race I developed a stress injury. I seen doctors, had an mri, went to physical therapy, recovery therapy, and did everything I could to run this race. I was cleared by my orthopedist to run this 3 days before the race. Although I hadn’t run in 3 weeks, I was able to run a 2hr and 14 min half. It wasn’t my original goal time pre injury, but I am so so so proud of myself.
This race was run on pure excitement to just be present!🩷
Running a half marathon is no small feat, and many runners share similar experiences of overcoming obstacles to achieve their race day goals. It’s essential to listen to your body and seek medical advice when necessary, as running with an injury can lead to long-term damage. Recovery time should never be rushed; instead, focus on cross-training activities that can aid healing and maintain fitness while preparing for the event. When race day arrives, the experience of crossing the finish line makes all the effort worthwhile. Many create special memories with friends and fellow runners, capturing moments through photos and stories to share online. Seeing various landscapes, meeting like-minded individuals, and earning that hard-earned medal creates a sense of fulfillment that's hard to replicate. Planning for upcoming races can also be exciting, as you can set new goals and envision better times. Explore local running clubs or online forums like #brooklynhalf and #halfmarathon, which foster community spirit and provide support for new or experienced runners. Remember, every mile run is a step towards better health and camaraderie – keep pushing your limits!
