... Read moreIt's always a special moment when I get to share pieces of my creative journey with you all! Art has been such an incredible outlet for me, allowing me to explore different emotions, techniques, and subjects. Today, I wanted to dive a little deeper into some of the artworks I've created, giving you a peek behind the canvas and into my process.
Let's start with my charcoal piece from 2021. This was an attempt at a portrait, and while it's not my absolute favorite, I do think it turned out pretty good. Working with charcoal can be challenging, but I love the depth and emotion it can convey. It was a learning curve, figuring out how to capture subtleties with such a stark medium, but I'm proud of the effort and the foundation it laid for future pieces.
Then there's the 'rose' in acrylic paint from 2022. This one holds a special place in my heart because I used to play piano, and something about the rhythmic flow of the petals reminded me of music. It was more of a color study, really, trying to understand how light and shadow play on different hues. While it might not be my most technically perfect piece, the personal connection makes it a standout for me.
Also from 2022, the 'forested road,' another acrylic paint creation. This used to be my favorite, and looking back, I still love the atmosphere I managed to create. However, I've noticed how much I've grown since then. It's funny how your perception of your own art changes as you evolve as an artist. I feel like I've gotten better at capturing details and conveying mood, and that growth is so rewarding to see.
The 'Caribbean platter' from 2023, created with oil pastels, feels like a moment frozen in time. This piece is absolutely perfect to me. The vibrant colors and textures remind me so much of Puerto Rico – the warmth, the culture, the incredible food. Oil pastels were a joy to work with for this subject, allowing for such rich, blendable colors that truly brought the platter to life on the page. It's one of those pieces that just clicked from start to finish.
And finally, the 'art-minded' piece from 2023. This was my very first time using loose ink, and honestly, it quickly became one of my favorite drawings ever. There's a certain freedom that comes with ink, a spontaneity that you don't always get with other mediums. I loved experimenting with how the ink flowed and spread, creating unexpected textures and lines. It felt like a breakthrough moment in my artistic journey, pushing me out of my comfort zone and into something truly exciting.
It's been a wonderful experience looking back at these pieces and reflecting on the journey. Each one represents a different stage of learning, experimenting, and growing as an artist. I definitely have more artworks to share for a part two, so keep an eye out! I'd love to hear which of these resonated with you the most!
Amazing art work, I LV art. My favourite passion is engraving and etching on glass, slate wood carving too. It's a great feeling when you achieve something that gives you and others so much joy and happiness ❤️
