Queens’ hidden gem neighborhood

I spent the day out in Sunnyside and honestly, it feels like one of the city’s best kept secrets 🌞✨ I started wandering through Sunnyside Gardens Park, one of the first planned garden communities in the U.S. — it’s so peaceful and looks nothing like the New York most people imagine.

Then I headed over to Bolivian Llama Party (Queens) for lunch. Their salteñas and sandwiches are next level — so much flavor packed into every bite 🥟🔥.

I wrapped up the afternoon at the Sunnyside Book Swap (& DVDs, Records, CDs, Video Games), Public Library and Donation Center in the neighborhood. It’s such a fun, community vibe — trading books, zines, and music with locals. I left with a new novel and felt like I’d stepped into Sunnyside’s creative side 📚🎶.

This neighborhood really balances cozy, residential charm with unexpected gems around every corner. #lemon8partner #ThingsToDo

... Read moreIf you’re looking to experience a side of New York City that many overlook, Sunnyside offers a refreshing escape from the typical urban bustle. The neighborhood’s hallmark, Sunnyside Gardens Park, is one of America’s earliest planned garden communities, designed to blend green spaces seamlessly with residential living. This provides a calm and scenic setting, quite unlike the usual fast-paced image of NYC. While you explore Sunnyside, don’t miss sampling the authentic flavors at Bolivian Llama Party, known for its incredible salteñas — a traditional Bolivian stuffed pastry packed with savory goodness. Their creative sandwiches also showcase a fusion of cultural tastes that capture Queens’ diverse culinary spirit. Engaging with the local community is another highlight, and the Sunnyside Book Swap is a fantastic spot to find unique books, vinyl records, and even video games. This hub encourages residents and visitors alike to connect through shared interests, fostering a creative and welcoming atmosphere. Besides these main attractions, Sunnyside’s streets are dotted with quaint cafes, boutique shops, and hidden murals that tell stories of its rich cultural heritage. It strikes a distinct balance between residential coziness and vibrant local life, making it ideal for those who appreciate neighborhoods that offer both tranquility and discovery. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, Sunnyside’s combination of planned green spaces, flavorful dining, and community-focused events provide an authentic New York experience away from the tourist crowds. It truly stands out as a neighborhood that surprises and delights at every corner, embodying a unique blend of history, culture, and neighborly warmth.
