Traveling Armenia without leaving NYC
Spent the day exploring Little Armenia in Midtown Manhattan, and it felt like a peaceful cultural journey without leaving the city.
First stop: St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic Cathedral on 2nd Ave. Built in 1968, this cathedral is the first of its kind in North America and is dedicated to St. Vartan, a 5th-century Armenian martyr. Its design is inspired by the Saint Hripsime Church in Armenia, and the golden dome gleams against the skyline. Inside, the cathedral serves as a spiritual and cultural hub for the Armenian community, hosting schools and cultural events.
Next, I wandered over to Kalustyan's on Lexington Ave. Established in 1944, this store began as a small Armenian shop and has since expanded to offer over 10,000 products from more than 80 countries. From Middle Eastern spices to South Asian ingredients, it’s a treasure trove for food enthusiasts.
Exploring these spots felt like uncovering a piece of history and culture right in the heart of Manhattan. If you’re ever in the area, it’s worth a visit to experience the rich Armenian heritage that still thrives here. 💛 #lemon8partner
