Getting some studying done!

I'm getting some studying done this morning!

These notes are actually ones I took last night and this morning.

I'm on my last lecture for this section of the free AMCI Introduction to Medical Coding course! I'm so happy that I'm making such good progress!

I'll spare you the details but I haven't always been the best student. I think that was due to a lot of different factors that, at that time, were out of my control.

So the fact that I'm making progress and I'm able to understand and learn these things is a big deal to me.

I'm excited to get some more studying done this morning and maybe some more this evening!

... Read moreAs someone who has faced challenges with studying in the past, I understand how rewarding it feels to finally make real progress in learning a complex subject like medical coding. One strategy that has helped me significantly is breaking down the material into manageable sections and tackling them one at a time. For example, focusing on understanding the Diagnostic Coding and Reporting Guidelines for outpatient services allows me to build a solid foundation before moving on to more advanced topics. Another important tip is leveraging effective note-taking techniques. Writing detailed notes during lectures, as well as reviewing and rewriting them afterwards, has improved both my comprehension and retention. I often use highlighters and color-coded headings to easily identify important points such as the rules for first-listed codes or guidelines for uncertain diagnoses, which are crucial when coding outpatient services. These visual cues make revision sessions more efficient. It's also helpful to relate the theoretical guidelines to real-life scenarios—for example, understanding when to assign the reason for surgery as the first-listed code if a patient is admitted for observation following outpatient surgery. Applying these concepts practically rather than just memorizing them has deepened my grasp of medical coding standards. Lastly, maintaining a consistent study schedule with periodic breaks prevents burnout. Studying both in the morning and evening, as I do, enhances focus and increases overall productivity. Celebrating small achievements, such as completing a lecture or mastering a coding section, keeps motivation high. If you're also studying medical coding, I encourage you to be patient with yourself and remember that progress may be gradual but is definitely achievable. Utilizing free resources like the AMCI Introduction to Medical Coding course and combining them with personalized note-taking methods can transform your learning experience. Keep going—you'll be surprised how far dedication and good study habits can take you.
