3 things I learned making a college basketball doc

It’s so much easier to get people talking if you make them feel comfortable. Too many times do i see someone trying to get the interviewee to say something. Instead of helping them through their memories, they are forcing a narrative. It doesn’t feel good.

Reunions of all kinds make great moments to capture for documentaries. It seems to be one of the central themes of many documentary “look backs.” I’m sure someone more informed could tell us why, but for sure it’s a big part of this genre.
