How thick/small did you originally want your locs?

Honestly, I wanted my locs thick! As soon as my mom’s friend was done locking my hair, I was so confused lol. I only have about 70 something locs and I was expecting some thick luscious locs! Lol

Turns out my hair wasn’t as thick as I thought! lol I realized that no matter what you want your locs to look like when getting them, they’ll form into your own unique size and form!

I definitely love them but I wouldn’t mind playing with other sizes one day!

... Read moreI totally get the feeling of having a specific vision for your locs and then seeing them take on a life of their own! My journey started with a strong desire for super thick locs, but as my hair progressed, I realized that locs truly have a unique way of forming, often independent of our initial desires. It's a beautiful lesson in embracing what your hair naturally wants to do. You might start with a certain number, say 70-ish like mine, and watch them mature and change in density and size over time. It’s part of the magic of a loc journey—it’s not just about hair, it’s about personal growth and acceptance too. One thing I've learned is that while you can’t fully control the ultimate thickness, proper care can significantly influence their health and appearance. For anyone on their own loc journey, a consistent loc care routine is absolutely key. This usually involves regular cleansing to prevent buildup, moisturizing to keep them supple, and careful retwisting or interlocking to maintain neatness without causing tension. I've found that using light, natural oils like jojoba, argan, or almond oil helps keep my scalp healthy and my locs hydrated without weighing them down. And remember, when it comes to products, less is often more – you want your locs to breathe and flourish naturally! It's also fascinating to see how locs change over time. What might start as seemingly thinner locs can eventually bud and thicken, especially at the roots and ends as your hair matures and compacts. Don't be discouraged if they don't look exactly like your "loc inspo" pictures right away. Patience is truly a virtue in this journey! If you're feeling your locs aren't quite what you expected, perhaps a bit thinner or thicker than you envisioned, connecting with a loc stylist who understands different hair textures and loc types can be super helpful. They can offer personalized advice on maintaining loc thickness or even techniques like combining locs if you desire a fuller look down the line. It's all about tailoring the journey to your hair. Beyond care, the fun part is loc styling ideas and accessories! Even with locs that might not be as thick as you initially imagined, there are countless ways to express your unique style. I love experimenting with different updos, messy buns, and intricate braids. And, of course, adding some bling! I've seen some absolutely stunning looks with gold beads woven into locs, and cowrie shells can add such a beautiful, organic, and culturally rich touch to brown locs – just like the ones you might see adorning someone's hair in a picture, giving that perfect 'in my zen' vibe as they soak up the outdoors, perhaps even wearing stylish green sunglasses! These little additions can completely transform your look and make your locs feel even more unique and personalized, reflecting your inner self. Ultimately, whether your locs are thick, thin, long, or short, the most important thing is to love and nurture them. Each loc journey is unique, and that's precisely what makes it so special. Embrace the evolution, enjoy the styling, and let your locs tell their own beautiful story. What are your favorite ways to style or adorn your locs?
