What a journey it’s been 😘 2013-2026

7/24 Edited to

... Read moreWow, reflecting on my journey from 2013 to 2026, it's incredible how far I've come, especially after battling cancer. I remember vividly the comments that used to sting, like someone saying, 'If you gain weight no one will love you,' or the cutting remark, 'You looked better before you started weight lifting.' Even when I was feeling my weakest, I heard, 'You look too sick. But don't get over 125 pounds.' These weren't just words; they were heavy chains trying to hold me back from truly embracing my healing body. For so long, I let those external opinions dictate how I saw myself. Post-cancer, my body was different. It carried scars, gained and lost weight, and simply wasn't the 'before' version. It was a constant battle to find peace with these changes. One of the biggest challenges was learning to silence the critics, both external and internal. I realized that my worth wasn't tied to a number on the scale or someone else's idea of what 'healthy' or 'beautiful' looked like. My journey to self-love wasn't linear, but here are a few things that truly helped me. First, I started reframing my fitness. Instead of working out to look a certain way (and avoid comments like "you looked better before..."), I focused on how strong it made me feel. Weight lifting became a powerful tool for rebuilding my physical strength and, surprisingly, my mental resilience. It wasn't about being 'under 125 pounds' but about feeling capable and energized. Secondly, I learned to set boundaries with people who made unhelpful comments. Sometimes it was a direct 'That comment isn't helpful, please don't say that,' and other times it was simply distancing myself. Protecting my peace became a priority. It's okay to prioritize your mental health over others' unsolicited opinions. Third, I sought out communities that celebrated body diversity and self-acceptance. Seeing others who embraced their unique journeys made me feel less alone. It helped me challenge the notion that there's only one ideal body type, especially after illness. Finally, I practiced daily affirmations and gratitude. Looking in the mirror, I'd remind myself of everything my body had overcome. It might not be perfect, but it's strong, resilient, and it carried me through cancer. That's something to celebrate. The silly 'Oh lease' moments where I could laugh at the absurdity of it all also became important. This decade-long transformation has taught me that true beauty and love come from within, and no external criticism can ever diminish that.
