I’m a volunteer at the Chicago Hearing Society and one of my audiologist friends practiced a hearing test on me!! this was such an educational experience and I feel so lucky to have gotten to do it ❤️ #signlanguage #asl #audiology #americansignlanguage #fypシ
Getting a hearing test was truly eye-opening for me, especially as someone involved in the Deaf community and familiar with American Sign Language (ASL). The test began with repeating words at decreasing volumes, which challenged my concentration and sometimes made me second-guess what I heard. Following that, the audiologist used pure tone testing, playing tones at different frequencies to my ears, and I noticed it was harder to hear some lower tones compared to higher ones. It was fascinating to experience how audiologists use specialized equipment like sound booths and headphones to isolate sounds accurately. The sound booth itself was impressively quiet, which enhanced the sensitivity of the test and made me appreciate how controlled environments help yield precise hearing measurements. One surprising aspect was hearing sounds through a headset that mimicked the sensation of being inside an airplane, which helped me understand how hearing aids or assistive devices might alter sound perception. Volunteering with the Chicago Hearing Society and engaging closely with audiology broadened my understanding of hearing health. For those curious about hearing tests, it's worth knowing that these evaluations are not just simple hearing checks but involve a variety of frequencies and stimuli to map out how well each ear detects sound. Whether you have hearing concerns or simply want to learn more about audiology, experiencing or observing such tests can be educational and reassuring. As someone passionate about sign language and deaf culture, I realize the importance of hearing health in both the hearing and Deaf communities. Sharing my personal journey helps raise awareness of audiology services available and encourages others to prioritize their auditory well-being.
