Letting him be repetitive because it keeps him in a good mood…WE CHOOSE OUR BATTLES WISELY now days…
When spending time with a loved one on the autism spectrum, especially during outings like a shopping trip, it's natural to encounter repetitive behaviors. From personal experience, I've found that embracing these moments with patience rather than frustration significantly improves the overall experience. Allowing repetitive speech or actions can help keep the person calm and in a good mood, which is especially important in busy environments. One challenging aspect is managing reactions from bystanders or overprotective family members, sometimes referred to humorously as "overprotective aunties." They may unintentionally add pressure, which can increase anxiety for everyone involved. Learning to focus on what truly matters—maintaining comfort and well-being for the person with autism—helps to choose your battles wisely. Creating a calm and supportive environment during outings can make a huge difference. Simple strategies, like preparing familiar snacks or having a quiet spot to retreat to, aid in managing sensory overload. Humor also plays a vital role in easing tension; finding the funny side of situations fosters connection and reduces stress. Sharing these experiences, whether through social media or community groups, raises awareness about the everyday realities of autism and offers support to others in similar situations. It reminds us all that while challenges exist, so do moments of joy, understanding, and family bonding.
