This often occurs when the opponent has a high Dexterity (DEX) modifier, which significantly boosts their Armor Class (AC), making successful attacks a real challenge. One useful tip is to focus on the mechanics behind AC in D&D 5e. Armor Class can be increased through natural armor, magical effects, or high DEX scores. When an enemy has a high DEX modifier, like your OCR text suggests with "CALVES DEX impossible," it’s often thanks to a combination of agility and light armor or even class features such as those possessed by Rogues or Monks. To counter this, consider leveraging advantage on your attack rolls, which you can obtain through spells, conditions, or teamwork. For example, the spell "Faerie Fire" grants advantage by illuminating the target, negating their DEX-based bonuses to AC temporarily. Also, certain classes have abilities to help in this regard; fighters with the Battle Master archetype can use maneuvers like 'Precision Attack' to increase hit chances. In addition, using spells or abilities that bypass AC, such as magic missiles or area-of-effect spells, can minimize the frustration of missing frequently due to high AC. Remember also that targeting saving throws instead of attack rolls might be a tactical choice, as some creatures have lower saving throw modifiers. From my gameplay, I found that addressing "impossible to hit" scenarios isn’t just about increasing your damage output; it’s about teamwork and strategy. Encourage your party to control the battlefield with conditions like 'restrained' or 'paralyzed,' which grants advantage on attacks. Lastly, as a Dungeon Master or player, embracing these moments of challenge can make the game more exciting. It forces players to think creatively, strategize collaboratively, and appreciate the value of buffs, debuffs, and tactical positioning in combat. So if you ever feel stuck against an enemy with seemingly impossible defenses, try thinking outside the box and apply these techniques to turn the tide in your favor.
