iTunes Backup Taking Too Much Space? Move It Now
Running out of storage because of iTunes backups? This video shows how to change your iTunes backup location and move backups to another drive without losing your iPhone data.
If you've been struggling with limited storage space on your main drive due to iTunes backups, you're not alone. These backups can quickly accumulate and consume significant disk space over time. From my personal experience, relocating your iTunes backup folder to an external drive or another internal drive is a game-changer for managing your storage. On Windows, the process involves creating a new folder on your preferred drive, then using the command prompt with administrator privileges to create a symbolic link. This link essentially tricks your system into saving future backups in the new location, while iTunes still thinks it's using the default folder. Make sure to replace the placeholder paths with your actual usernames and folder names. For Mac users, the Terminal app offers a similar solution through symbolic links (using the 'ln -s' command). After creating a new backup folder on an external drive, the Terminal command connects the old backup location to the new folder seamlessly. Be mindful to enter your admin password when prompted, and restart your Mac for changes to take effect. If manual command lines sound intimidating, consider third-party tools like FoneTool. It offers a user-friendly interface to selectively or fully backup your iPhone data while allowing you to choose a custom backup storage path. This flexibility ensures backups are manageable and space is optimized. Whichever method you use, always ensure that the backup process completes successfully after moving the backup location. Regularly managing your backup files can prevent storage issues and help keep your device data secured. Moving backups has not only helped me reclaim valuable disk space but also made my backup process smoother and more organized.
