Feminism said choice. Capitalism sold the routine.
Here is the uncomfortable part:
I can love getting ready and still know I am being sold a fantasy.
The fantasy says:
be empowered, but stay beautiful.
be independent, but stay desirable.
be natural, but remove the hair.
be low-maintenance, but look expensive.
be yourself, but make it marketable.
And somehow I still want the clear manicure, the silver jewelry, the leather bag, the backless dress, the smooth legs, and the calm skin.
That is the trap.
The system is annoying, but the aesthetic is good.
URperf Hair Removal Cream, SUMAX Relief Serum, and Vermisse Essential Oil all fit into that contradiction for me:
I know beauty is political.
I also know I like looking polished.
Maybe that is not hypocrisy.
Maybe that is just being a woman under capitalism.
So what do we do?
Opt out, glow up, or admit most of us are doing both?
