Hey everyone! I'm so excited to share my current big project: a massive 16-inch tall 3D printed Spider-Man LEGO minifigure! As you can see from my progress, it's still partially assembled, with those separate blue leg pieces waiting to be joined. Tackling a print this size is a whole different ballgame compared to smaller models, and I wanted to share some tips and tricks I'm learning along the way that might help you with your own tall or large 3D prints. One of the biggest hurdles I've faced is ensuring stability throughout the print. A 16-inch figure means many hours on the print bed, and any slight wobble or adhesion issue can ruin the whole thing. For this Spider-Man, I've found that a well-calibrated bed and a strong adhesive (like a good gluestick or even a brim) are non-negotiable. I use a brim on almost all of my tall prints now, as it really helps spread the load and prevent those frustrating corners from lifting. Another crucial aspect for printing large objects is managing warping, especially with materials like ABS, though even PLA can warp on big, flat surfaces. For my red and blue Spider-Man, I'm carefully monitoring my print temperatures – a slightly lower bed temperature after the first few layers can sometimes help, or if you have one, an enclosure can make a huge difference in maintaining a consistent environment. Slowing down the print speed, especially for the initial layers and any critical structural parts, is also a game-changer. Patience truly is a virtue when you're watching a print build up layer by layer for hours! For a complex figure like a Spider-Man minifigure, supports are inevitable. Getting them right, so they support effectively without being impossible to remove or damaging the surface, is an art. I'm experimenting with different support densities and patterns for this model, focusing on critical overhangs. And because this 16-inch figure was too big for my printer in one go, I had to split it into several parts. This means paying extra attention to how the connecting parts will fit together – accuracy in scaling and precise cuts are key to a seamless finish. The "additional connecting part" I showed is a testament to that planning! I'm not done yet with my Spider-Man, but every challenge brings a new lesson. From managing filament spools for such a long print to ensuring each layer adheres perfectly on those separate blue leg pieces, it's a journey.
