Sandrock

Hey Gunpla fam! I recently got my hands on the HG Sandrock kit, and I couldn't wait to share my build experience with you all. As a huge fan of Gundam Wing, getting to assemble one of the iconic five Gundams was a real treat. The build itself was incredibly smooth. Bandai's engineering really shines here. The parts snap together beautifully, and I really enjoyed seeing the Desert Gundam (as it's sometimes called) come to life piece by piece. The color separation is pretty good for an HG, though I always recommend panel lining to really make those details pop. The iconic Heat Shotels are a highlight – they look so menacing! Articulation is decent, allowing for some dynamic poses, especially with those massive shoulder armor pieces. I spent a good few hours just posing it after the build was done, trying to capture its combat-ready stance. What makes the Sandrock truly stand out for me, beyond the kit itself, is its connection to the Gundam Wing series. Piloted by Quatre Raberba Winner, Sandrock is all about close-quarters combat and its unique desert camouflage. It's not as flashy as Wing Gundam or as stealthy as Deathscythe, but its brute force and the honorable spirit of Quatre always resonated with me. Building this kit felt like bringing a piece of that epic story right onto my shelf, a tangible reminder of those intense battles. Speaking of the broader Gundam universe, it's always fun to see how these mobile suits translate into games. While I know Gundam Evolution focuses on a different roster, the spirit of fast-paced mech combat and distinctive unit design is something both Gunpla builders and gamers appreciate. Imagining how Sandrock's Heat Shotels would perform in a game like that, or reminiscing about its moves in older Gundam fighting games, adds another layer of enjoyment to the hobby. It reminds me how interconnected the world of Gundam is, from anime to models to video games.
