No Screen Time

First of all if you do screen time, i don’t care at all. this is just the choice we made for our daughter. anyway, she’s 9 months old; we could give her a water bottle and she’d be happy for 30 mins. she’s not difficult to entertain so we don’t feel a need to give her a screen. there’s so much research that any type of screen time is overstimulating for their developing brains. screen time is linked to SO MANY issues, like shorter attention spans, problems with eye sight (from the blue light), language delays and so many other things. we just put on spotify or audiobooks for the majority of the time. it works great for us! we do still watch tv, we just don’t let our daughter! if it’s on while she’s in the room she’ll very occasionally look over at it but always goes right back to what she’s doing.

... Read moreIn today's digital age, many parents grapple with the issue of screen time for their infants. Research suggests that excessive exposure to screens can be detrimental to a child’s development. A study published in the Journal of Pediatrics highlights potential connections between screen time and adverse outcomes, such as decreased cognitive development and shorter attention spans. Engaging children through interactive play, music, and audiobooks, instead of screens, can stimulate their imagination and promote healthy brain development. Alternatives such as reading or listening to audiobooks not only foster language skills but also offer a calming experience that is essential for young minds. Audiobooks can deliver a rich auditory experience while allowing for bonding moments between parents and children. As parents advocate for no screen time, they also find peace in knowing that simple toys or even a water bottle can sustain a child’s interest. It’s important to promote diverse methods of engagement to nurture creativity and social skills. Ultimately, monitoring screen time and encouraging hands-on exploration creates a balanced environment for young ones to flourish.

Same here! I have 2 kiddos, one who’s 20 months and one who’s 4 months. I honestly don’t even think about the fact that we don’t do screen time because it’s so normal to me. My toddler is at the age where he’s getting bored of his toys really fast, but luckily it’s getting warm outside, and he plays outside all day!
