Book review. This village has spies.
The plot is good, interesting, but the story is not very fun.

The story of "Maggie," a former CIA man who spent her retirement life peacefully in rural Maine, but then the peace ended when a young woman's body was dumped in front of her house. She thought this was connected to the last mission no one wanted to remember 16 years ago. So she and her retired friend had to find out who this unsub was.
What's Maggie's story like, what it's like to find out the truth of a retired spy, and who the unsub is, is gonna have to read it.
Good plot / storyline, some fun, some fun, some fun, some uncomplicated, easy to read, easy to understand, before reading, thinking that the investigation will be more intense, or seeing a retired spy really looking for the truth, really good at it, but no.
The speed of running a story at the middle level makes some parts boring, but not so much that they want to be able to read and enjoy and stick to their hands.
What makes the story slow because it switches to tell the past about what happened in the last act, it seems like water, but it's important because it's about the current investigation and gives the main character in this set a dimension, but I don't know if the next book, the main character, will be Maggie again, because the retired CIA doesn't have Maggie alone.
The guess is not very difficult. The plot is secretly familiar, but even then, there's a lot of peak, but not a lot of wow in the end. And the guess of the killer or the unsub is very hard to guess.
The ending doesn't have much. It seems like the next book will be paved or not.
Overall, it's not very fun, but it's very addictive. Read and enjoy the next book. Publisher will translate whenever you buy it, of course.

ถ้าคุณกำลังหารีวิว “The Spy Coast by Tess Gerritsen” เพื่อดูว่าเหมาะกับสาย “สายลับ CIA + สืบสวนฆาตกรรม” แค่ไหน บอกเลยว่าเล่มนี้ให้ฟีลต่างจากนิยายสืบสวนที่เน้นไล่ล่าหนัก ๆ นิดนึงค่ะ/ครับ สิ่งที่ชอบที่สุดคือพล็อตตั้งต้น: “แม็กกี้” อดีต CIA ใช้ชีวิตเงียบ ๆ ในชนบท แต่จู่ ๆ มีศพผู้หญิงถูกทิ้งไว้หน้าบ้าน เหมือนถูกจงใจส่งสัญญาณให้เธอกลับมา “จำ” ภารกิจสุดท้ายเมื่อ 16 ปีก่อน พอเปิดเรื่องมาแบบนี้มันติดมือทันที เพราะมันไม่ใช่คดีฆาตกรรมทั่วไป แต่มีเงาของโลกสายลับตามหลอกหลอนอยู่ตลอด ว่าใครกันแน่ที่รู้ตัวตนเก่าเธอ แต่ถ้าคาดหวังฉากสายลับแบบแอ็กชันจัด ๆ หรือการสืบสวนที่เข้มข้นทุกบท อาจต้องปรับความคาดหวังนิดนึง จุดที่ทำให้บางคน (รวมถึงเรา) รู้สึกว่า “สนุกประมาณนึง” คือจังหวะเล่าเรื่องค่อนข้างกลาง ๆ และมีการสลับอดีต-ปัจจุบันบ่อย ช่วงย้อนอดีตบางตอนเหมือนเป็นน้ำ แต่ก็เป็นน้ำที่จำเป็น เพราะมันค่อย ๆ เติมแรงจูงใจของตัวละคร และช่วยให้เห็นว่าอดีตของแม็กกี้ไม่ได้จบสวย อีกอย่างที่น่าสนใจคือโทน “วัยเกษียณ” ทำให้การสืบคดีมีความเป็นมนุษย์มากขึ้น ไม่ได้เป็นฮีโร่เก่งเวอร์ แต่เป็นคนที่มีประสบการณ์ มีแผลในใจ และต้องเลือกว่าจะปกป้องความสงบที่สร้างมาหรือจะเผชิญหน้ากับสิ่งที่ตามมา สำหรับคนที่ชอบตัวเอกมีมิติ และชอบบรรยากาศเมืองเล็ก ๆ ชนบทในรัฐเมน เล่มนี้ตอบโจทย์ค่ะ/ครับ เรื่องการเดาทาง: เส้นเรื่องโดยรวมไม่ซับซ้อน อ่านง่าย เดินเรื่องเรื่อย ๆ แต่จุดพีคคือ “ตัวคนร้าย” ที่เดายากมาก แบบที่เราไม่ค่อยคิดไปทางนั้นเลย ทำให้ท้ายเล่มยังมีแรงส่งให้รีบอ่านต่อ ถึงจะไม่ใช่หักมุมว้าวตลอด แต่มีจังหวะให้ลุ้นพอดี ๆ แนะนำสำหรับ: คนที่อยากอ่านนิยายสืบสวนฆาตกรรมที่มีกลิ่นอายสายลับ CIA, ชอบเล่าเรื่องแบบค่อยเป็นค่อยไป และชอบงานของ Tess Gerritsen อยู่แล้ว ไม่ค่อยเหมาะถ้า: อยากได้ความเร็วแบบไล่ล่าทุกบท หรือคดีที่ซับซ้อนเป็นชั้น ๆ ตลอดทั้งเรื่อง ทริคเล็ก ๆ ก่อนอ่าน: ลองอ่านโดยตั้งใจว่าเล่มนี้คือ “การเปิดซีรีส์/เปิดโลกของกลุ่มอดีต CIA วัยเกษียณ” มากกว่าจะเป็นคดีเดียวจบแบบจบแน่น ๆ จะสนุกขึ้น และถ้ามีเล่มต่อ ๆ ไปแปลไทยเมื่อไหร่ เราว่าแฟนสายสืบ/สายลับน่าจะตามต่อได้ไม่ยากค่ะ/ครับ
