An old man was taken to the hospital naked, crazy, like a pervert, and soon he disappeared without a trace. Two weeks later, another old man with a single condition suffered a coma a few days later died. The autopsy found something in his brain. Strangely, these two men were in Brant Hill Village. What exactly happened in this village? The only way to know is to read it.
Plot / story is good, fun, fun, fun. Most of the story is about medicine. There's a lot of jargon, but it's not very difficult to read. It's not very complicated. The investigation is about a lot.
The puzzle is a medical one, rarely found in other books, so that the early days are so incomprehensible and boring that they almost have to switch to other books first, but not because after the puzzle starts to see or begin to understand, it is hardly laid down.
It's very hard to guess, it's not a typical investigation, it makes a lot of events more unexpected, it's very peak, and it's very wow. It's hard to guess the unsub, no one looks suspicious, also a lot of characters, but the answer isn't very peak, because I didn't guess anyone. Is this motivation definitely nowhere?
Overall, it's fun, fun, fun, and a lot of unexpected things, but it's a little hard to read, because almost the whole thing is about medicine. It's Aunt Tess' third standalone book that I've read, and I think it's probably the best, I know, the doctor wrote.

ถ้าใครเสิร์ชหา Life Support ของ Tess Gerritsen เพราะเห็นปก (book cover) แล้วรู้สึกหลอน ๆ นิด ๆ บอกเลยว่าฟีลในเล่มก็ประมาณนั้นเลยค่ะ ปกที่เหมือน “เปลหามหน้าอาคารมืด ๆ” มันเข้ากับโทนเรื่องมาก อ่านแล้วรู้สึกอึดอัดแบบตั้งใจทำให้เราไม่สบายใจ ซึ่งเป็นเสน่ห์ของนิยายสืบสวนการแพทย์แนวนี้ จุดที่อยากเสริมสำหรับคนลังเล คือเล่มนี้เป็นแนว medical thriller ที่ “การแพทย์นำ” จริง ๆ ช่วงแรกอาจมีศัพท์เฉพาะ/ขั้นตอนทางการแพทย์เยอะ ทำให้บางคนรู้สึกอ่านช้า แต่จากประสบการณ์เรา ถ้าอ่านไปสักพักจะเริ่มจับทิศได้เอง เพราะประเด็นหลักมันชัด: คนแก่ในหมู่บ้านแบรนต์ฮิลล์มีอาการประหลาด คลุ้มคลั่ง/หมดสติ แล้วมีการหายตัวไปแบบผิดปกติ ปริศนามันไม่ได้มาแบบสืบสวนตามหาหลักฐานทั่วไปอย่างเดียว แต่จะพาเราไปตั้งคำถามว่า “เกิดอะไรขึ้นกับร่างกายของคนพวกนี้กันแน่” ทริคเล็ก ๆ ถ้าไม่ถนัดศัพท์แพทย์: ไม่ต้องพยายามจำทุกคำค่ะ โฟกัสที่ “ผลกระทบ” กับ “เหตุและผล” เช่น อาการนำไปสู่การรักษาแบบไหน ผลชันสูตรเจออะไร และสิ่งนั้นเชื่อมกับหมู่บ้านยังไง แค่นี้ก็อ่านรู้เรื่องและลุ้นได้แล้ว เหมือนดูซีรีส์หมอที่เราไม่ได้ต้องเป็นหมอถึงจะสนุก เล่มนี้เหมาะกับคนที่ชอบ: - นิยายสืบสวน/ฆาตกรรมที่มีประเด็นวิทยาศาสตร์-การแพทย์จริงจัง - พล็อตคนหาย/ชุมชนลึกลับ (หมู่บ้านนี้ไม่มีคนแก่ตาย) ที่บรรยากาศกดดัน - เรื่องที่เดาทางยาก ตัวละครเยอะ แต่พาไปทีละชั้นจนเริ่ม “วางไม่ลง” ส่วนคนที่อาจต้องทำใจก่อน: - ถ้าชอบสืบสวนแบบไล่จับคนร้ายเร็ว ๆ อาจรู้สึกว่าเปิดเรื่องมาค่อนข้างเทคนิคและค่อย ๆ ปู - ถ้าไม่ชอบรายละเอียดเกี่ยวกับร่างกาย การรักษา หรือการชันสูตร อาจมีบางช่วงที่หน่วง อีกอย่างที่เราชอบคือความเป็น “เล่มเดี่ยว” อ่านจบในเล่ม ไม่ต้องตามหลายภาค แต่ได้ความเข้มข้นแบบนิยายของ Tess Gerritsen ที่มีจังหวะเร่งให้ลุ้นเป็นระยะ ๆ ใครที่กำลังหา tess gerritsen หนังสือ ที่อ่านสนุกและต่างจากสืบสวนทั่วไป เล่มนี้เป็นตัวเลือกที่น่าลองมากค่ะ
