Has anyone else heard of scams actually happening

I was flying out of Knoxville to Charlotte, super early and packed. The American Airlines worker wouldn’t take my bag and instead handed me a Post-it with a number to “rebook.”

Half-asleep and panicked, I called. The guy on the phone asked for my card info and rebooked me for a fake flight. Later I found out — it was a full-on scam. Not just me, but a whole group of passengers got tricked the same way. We all had to cancel our cards.

Imagine trusting an airport worker, only to realize they set you up. Has this ever happened to anyone else?!

... Read moreAirport scams involving fake flight rebookings have become an alarming issue among unsuspecting travelers. This scam typically involves a person posing as an airport employee who instructs passengers to call a fraudulent number for flight changes or cancellations. Once contacted, victims are asked to provide sensitive payment information under the guise of confirming a legitimate rebooking. This method exploits passengers' vulnerability—often when they are tired or stressed, such as during early flights or delays. It is essential to remain vigilant and always verify the authenticity of any instructions received at the airport. Official airline employees will never insist on using unofficial phone numbers or request payment details outside secure channels. When in doubt, passengers should directly approach the airline’s official counters or contact the official airline phone numbers listed on their website or boarding pass. To protect yourself, here are some preventative tips: 1. Always confirm any rebooking requests directly at the airline counter. 2. Never share your payment details over the phone unless you have initiated contact from a trusted source. 3. Be cautious if handed notes or phone numbers not matching the official airline communications. 4. If approached with suspicious instructions, seek assistance from airport security or official airline staff. The OCR content reading "THANK YOU I got scammed-by an airport worker" highlights the personal impact and awareness needed to prevent such frauds. By understanding these tactics and sharing experiences, travelers can better safeguard their journeys and help others avoid falling victim to airport scams.
