Gospel for today: John 3:31-36
Gospel for today according to Saint John
John 3:31-36
The one who comes from above is above all.
The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things.
But the one who comes from heaven is above all.
He testifies to what he has seen and heard,
but no one accepts his testimony.
Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy.
For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God.
He does not ration his gift of the Spirit.
The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life,
but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life,
but the wrath of God remains upon him.

Hey everyone! I’ve been diving deep into John 3:31-36 lately, and wow, this passage is an incredible reminder of Jesus’ unique authority and who He truly is. For me, understanding these verses has really deepened my faith journey, especially when I think about what it means for our eternal life. This section of John's Gospel really highlights that Jesus, the one who comes from above, is above all earthly things. It emphasizes His heavenly origins, contrasting His testimony with that of anyone from the earth. The passage explains that Jesus speaks the very words of God because He has been given the Spirit without measure. This isn't just a casual statement; it's a profound truth that affirms God is truthful. Imagine, the Father loves the Son so much that He has entrusted everything to Him! This truth encourages me to place my full trust in Jesus and His teachings. What truly struck me is the clear choice presented here: whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, remaining under God's wrath. It's a powerful reminder that believing in Jesus isn't just a matter of intellectual assent; it's a decision that leads to either eternal life or eternal separation. This passage is a powerful call to truly embrace His authority and live in the light of His truth. It's not about complex theology; it's about a simple, yet profound, act of faith. And speaking of belief, this passage beautifully connects to other essential verses like John 3:16, which many of us know well: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Both verses underscore the incredible gift of eternal life that comes through believing in Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life. Thinking about the broader context, even earlier in John’s third chapter, Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus (John 3:9-21) about being 'born again' also ties into this perfectly. It’s all about understanding and accepting Jesus' testimony, recognizing Him as the light that has come into the world. Those who believe come into the light, while those who reject Him remain in darkness. This helps me understand the gravity of accepting or rejecting His truth. For us today, this passage is a powerful reminder that true authority and truth come from believing in Jesus. It’s an invitation to trust His authority, to truly lean into the heavenly wisdom He offers. Living in the light of His truth means letting His teachings guide our lives, knowing that He has been given the Spirit of God without measure. It's a journey of faith, and this Gospel message truly illuminates the path to eternal life. It makes me want to share this incredible good news even more!
