Gospel for today: Luke 8:1-3
Gospel for today according to Saint Luke
Luke 8:1-3
Jesus journeyed from one town and village to another,
preaching and proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God.
Accompanying him were the Twelve
and some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities,
Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza,
Susanna, and many others
who provided for them out of their resources.

In this passage from Luke 8:1-3, we see a vivid picture of Jesus’ active ministry as He journeyed from village to village, spreading the good news of the Kingdom of God. What stands out in this Gospel reading is not only Jesus’ message but also the dedicated support He received from His followers, including some remarkable women. Mary Magdalene, known for being freed from seven demons, Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, Susanna, and many others who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities accompanied Him. These women did more than just travel alongside Jesus; they provided for His ministry out of their own resources, showing a deep commitment to the spiritual mission. The involvement of these women challenges common perceptions of the time, reflecting a ministry built on inclusion and faith rather than social status or background. Their healing experiences were transformative, motivating them not only to follow Jesus but to actively contribute to the spread of His teachings. This aspect of service and joyful support in Jesus' ministry exemplifies the call for believers to participate fully in faith communities, offering what they have to further the message of hope and salvation. Moreover, this passage invites modern readers to reflect on their own roles in supporting spiritual and community endeavors. Like Joanna and Susanna, who gave resources selflessly, individuals today can consider how to joyfully serve and support causes that align with their faith and values. Whether through prayer, volunteering, or other means, the faithful support of Jesus' followers is a timeless example of partnership in divine work. This Gospel reading also encourages believers to recognize the power of healing and deliverance, as seen in the lives of these women, and to embrace the transformative power of faith. Their stories inspire a deep sense of gratitude and a call to be active participants in spreading good news. Jesus’ ministry, supported by these faithful followers, continues to be a model for Christian witness and service, reminding us that each person’s contribution is valuable in building the Kingdom of God here on earth.
