So close...
Ugh, has anyone else been there? You're SO close to beating a tough boss in Elden Ring, you land a perfect 'Impaling Thrust,' thinking you've got this, and then BAM – one misstep, and the dreaded 'YOU DIED' screen pops up. My blood pressure definitely spikes every time! It makes you really appreciate every single Flask of Crimson Tears, doesn't it? When I first started my journey as a Tarnished, I honestly didn't pay much attention to the Flask of Crimson Tears beyond 'it heals me.' But after countless 'YOU DIED' moments, I realized just how central it is to survival in the Lands Between. So, what exactly are Crimson Tears? Simply put, the Flask of Crimson Tears is your primary healing item in Elden Ring. Think of it as your portable emergency health pack. Each use restores a portion of your HP, letting you stay in the fight longer and (hopefully!) avoid that soul-crushing death screen. You start with a few charges, but thankfully, you can significantly upgrade both the number of charges and the amount of HP restored per charge. To get more charges, you need to find Golden Seeds. These are often found near ghostly saplings or at the base of smaller Erdtree lookalikes scattered across the map. Every few Golden Seeds you collect allows you to assign an additional charge to either your Flask of Crimson Tears or your Flask of Cerulean Tears (for FP). I always prioritize Crimson Tears early on because staying alive is my main goal! To make each sip more potent, you'll want to hunt for Sacred Tears. These are usually found in churches or ruined chapels. Each Sacred Tear permanently increases the effectiveness of your Flask of Crimson Tears, so you heal more HP with every use. Trust me, finding these makes a huge difference in later areas where enemies hit like trucks. My personal strategy? Don't be afraid to use them! I used to hoard my charges, thinking I'd save them for the 'real' boss fight, only to die to a group of regular enemies. Now, I try to keep my HP topped up, especially before a risky move or after taking a big hit. It's better to use a charge and survive than to die with a full flask! Also, remember you can swap between your Crimson and Cerulean Flasks at a Site of Grace, which is super handy if you're going into a magic-heavy fight or a melee brawl. Beyond the basic flask, there are also Crystal Tears that can be mixed into your Flask of Wondrous Physick. For example, the Crimsonburst Crystal Tear grants continuous HP recovery for a short duration, which can be a lifesaver during a prolonged boss fight. There are also talismans like the Crimson Amber Medallion that boost your maximum HP, indirectly helping you survive longer between sips of your Crimson Tears. So next time you're facing down a tough foe, remember the power of those little red flasks. They're not just for healing; they're your lifeline, your second (or third, or fourth...) chance to avoid that 'YOU DIED' message and finally conquer the challenge. Good luck, Tarnished!
