... Read moreFinding authentic Hawaiian BBQ outside of Hawaii can be a real quest, but living in Flagstaff, I was thrilled to discover Aloha Hawaiian BBQ. It's truly a local gem for anyone craving those distinct island flavors right here at 16 Historic Rte 66, Flagstaff, AZ 86001. When you step in, you immediately get that classic, no-frills, welcoming vibe that many Hawaiian plate lunch places share – it feels just right. What immediately caught my attention, beyond the inviting aroma, were the prices. Let me tell you, finding quality food that doesn't break the bank is a huge win. Compared to paying upwards of twenty dollars for a similar meal elsewhere, Aloha Hawaiian BBQ offers generous plate lunches ranging from about $12 to $16. That's fantastic value for the amount and quality of food you receive. I took a good look at their menu items, and there’s a great selection beyond just the standard. For my first visit, I opted for a combination that included the Kalbi plate and the Barbecue Beef plate, and I also spotted options like Fried Shrimp and Chicken on the menu. The Barbecue Beef quickly became my absolute favorite thing there. The texture was spot on – surprisingly soft and tender, not tough or chewy at all, which is often a concern with BBQ beef. It was packed with good flavor, making every bite a delight. The Kalbi, or short ribs, were equally impressive, perfectly marinated and grilled. Even the Aioha Plate seemed like a solid choice for a sampler. Of course, no Hawaiian meal feels complete without trying Malasadas. I must admit, I had high expectations, having enjoyed the light and fluffy versions in Hawaii. Here, they're a bit different – more of a dense doughnut texture, but don't let that deter you! They’re still incredibly delicious and a wonderful sweet ending to a savory meal. It's clear that Aloha Hawaiian BBQ takes pride in bringing a slice of island life to Flagstaff. It’s exciting to know that this place is really the only dedicated Hawaiian plate lunch spot in Flagstaff. If you’re yearning for a genuine taste of Hawaii, whether it’s the succulent BBQ beef, the perfectly seasoned Kalbi, or those satisfyingly dense malasadas, Aloha Hawaiian BBQ is where you need to go. My experience was fantastic, and I'm already planning my next visit to explore more of their menu, perhaps trying the fried shrimp next time. Trust me, it’s a Flagstaff food review you won't regret reading or experiencing yourself!
