Mission failed: Getting Poke at Moku Hawaiian Grill

Visiting Moku Hawaiian Grill was quite the experience, especially because I was excited to try their famous poke. Unfortunately, arriving around 5 PM meant they were out of poke for the day, which was disappointing as it’s often the star dish. However, this gave me the chance to explore other menu items, including teriyaki chicken, chicken katsu, and pulehu beef. The teriyaki chicken stood out with its savory glaze and slightly smoky, char-grill flavor that felt authentic and satisfying. The chicken katsu was crispy and nicely complemented by typical Hawaiian sides like macaroni salad and salted edamame, which added texture and flavor contrasts to the meal. The portion sizes were generous, and the meals were reasonably priced, typically around $5 to $6 plus additional costs for some sides or extra servings. One thing I appreciated about the menu was the variety of traditional Hawaiian dishes alongside popular options like spam musubi and mochiko chicken. The presence of various drink options including Hawaiian Sun beverages and the iconic Dole Whip is a nice touch, capturing the local island spirit even in Phoenix. While missing out on the poke was a letdown, the overall meal lasted me for three different servings, which proved good value, especially considering the convenience and quality. For anyone eager to try authentic Hawaiian flavors away from the islands, Moku Hawaiian Grill is worth a visit. I recommend arriving earlier in the day if poke is your must-have, and definitely sampling the teriyaki and katsu dishes if you’re open to alternatives. This visit has encouraged me to return and hopefully try the legendary poke next time, as well as explore more of their Hawaiian-inspired offerings that bring a taste of the islands right to Arizona.
