What’s something that your grandkids do ?
Tell us in the comments with something that your grandkids do 😂
Oh, being a grandparent is just the most incredible journey, isn't it? When people ask me 'what do grandparents do?', I could talk for hours! It’s so much more than just babysitting or spoiling them (though we definitely excel at that too, haha!). For me, it's about creating a unique bond that’s filled with unconditional love, shared laughter, and countless memories. One of the absolute best things I do as a grandparent is simply *being there*. Whether it's picking them up from school, listening intently to their elaborate stories about their day, or just sitting quietly together while they play, those small moments are everything. I love to bake with my grandkids – we have our special 'Grandma's Chocolate Chip Cookie' recipe that's been passed down, and watching their little faces light up as they mix ingredients and sneak a taste of the dough is pure joy. It’s not just about the cookies; it's about the tradition, the learning, and the wonderful mess we make together! Another cherished activity involves storytelling. I often tell them tales from my own childhood, or we make up fantastical adventures on the spot. Their imaginations are boundless, and it’s wonderful to see them escape into these worlds with me. We also love our 'adventure days' – sometimes it's a trip to the local park, other times it’s exploring a new museum or just a walk around the neighborhood, pointing out interesting leaves or funny-shaped clouds. These aren't always grand excursions, but they’re always filled with discovery and quality time. I also find myself teaching them little life lessons, often without even trying. Whether it's showing them how to fix a wobbly chair, explaining why we should be kind to animals, or simply demonstrating patience when something doesn't go their way, these are the 'things grandparents do' that truly shape their character. I've learned so much from them too, staying updated on their favorite games and learning about new technologies! It’s a two-way street of learning and growing. Beyond the fun and games, grandparents often play a crucial supportive role for their adult children. We might offer a helping hand with childcare, provide a listening ear, or share advice gleaned from our own parenting journeys. It’s about being a pillar of strength and stability for the whole family. There's a special kind of comfort and wisdom that grandparents can offer, a different perspective from parents. We’ve seen a bit more of life, and sometimes that allows us to be a calm harbor in their little storms. It’s about offering that extra layer of support and encouragement, celebrating their triumphs, and comforting them through their disappointments. Ultimately, what I do as a grandparent is love, nurture, and create a safe, joyful space where my grandkids feel completely themselves. Every hug, every silly joke, every shared secret – these are the precious threads that weave our unique tapestry. It’s a role I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. It’s a constant reminder of the beauty of family and the passing on of love through generations. What about you? What are some of the most rewarding 'things grandparents do' in your life?
