I think the world is really unpredictable. About 2 months ago, I stumbled upon a few board game TikTok accounts and came across this game called Shut The Box. It looked really fun and interesting, so I went on the App Store to see if there were any versions of it — and yes, there were, but none of them looked or felt like the physical game.
So, I thought — why not just make my own? And of course, add my own twist.
The first week after releasing it, the game made about $1/day, which to me felt like a small early sign (???). Not sure why, but I just had that feeling.
Then, I stumbled upon those “matching” games on TikTok and thought, why not create that too? So I made two more games from there.
To my surprise, these games actually started making real money. Not an insane amount — but still, I think it’s pretty rewarding. Coupled with revenue from users removing ads, it ’s been consistent, and I now make around $100+ a day from them.
It’s really funny how sometimes the simplest or even “dumbest” (looking at you, Dashboard) ideas can end up working.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned — just start. You never know which small idea might surprise you.
... Read moreWhen I first started, I had no idea this project would be profitable. I simply enjoyed the idea of recreating a favorite board game in app form, and it was all about having fun with the creative process. Over time, as I noticed slight earnings creeping in—like today's estimated total of SGD167—it motivated me to explore new game concepts like matching games featured on TikTok.
One important lesson I learned is the value of testing ideas quickly and iterating. Instead of trying to launch a perfect game, I released versions that captured the core experience and added my personal twists. Revenue streams came from ads and users opting to remove them, blending fun gameplay with monetization without compromising user experience.
I also realized that consistent small earnings accumulate into substantial monthly income, such as the SGD2.86K recorded so far. This reinforces that pioneering ideas—even those that seem simple or unconventional—can become sustainable sources of income.
For anyone interested in starting their own app or game, I recommend focusing on what excites you and being open to experimenting. The key takeaway from my experience is: just start. You never know which idea might unexpectedly flourish into something rewarding and profitable.
so do we need to have experience to start ?
