Don't bring a sports car to a mission that requires heavy armor, or vice versa. And please, please, don't drive off without the rest of the team! It's a team effort, and leaving someone behind is just asking for trouble. When I'm playing on my XBOX, I always make sure we have a solid getaway vehicle or a reliable armored car if needed.
