Here are my thoughts 💭:

The first part of this book hooked me. The middle part DRAGGED. The ending gave me whiplash. My body had a visceral reaction to chapter 42 and I sobbed. Actual sobs. Unwell sobbing. (It’s a full moon, cut me some slack) Greenwood’s writing is lovely and comical. Her characters are quirky (almost too much l at times) and her story was super intriguing. The concept was great, I just think some fluff could have been cut out. Overall, would definitely recommend to any fellow romcom lover 🫶🏻

The synopsis 📖:

Delphie wakes up in the afterlife- a laundromat if you’re wondering- and accidentally meets the love of her life. Her afterlife therapist, Merritt, makes a deal with her: she has ten days to find her soulmate (who inconveniently has forgotten their interaction) and get him to kiss her and she can stay alive. If she doesn’t, she has to go back to Evermore, her afterlife home.

This is a GMA pick and I get it. I did enjoy it MOST of the time.

... Read moreOkay, so let's dive a little deeper into 'The Love of My Afterlife' by Kirsty Greenwood, because honestly, this book gave me so much to think about! From the moment I saw that stunning book cover, I was intrigued, but the story inside really took me on a ride. The magical realism aspect? Absolutely captivating from chapter one. Waking up in a laundromat afterlife is such a quirky, fresh take on the concept, and it immediately sets a unique tone. Greenwood blends the supernatural with everyday emotions so seamlessly that you find yourself completely invested in Delphie's predicament. And yes, the original review mentioned 'literally every trope' – and it's true! From enemies-to-lovers vibes to a second-chance romance twist, and even a dash of forced proximity, it’s all there. But what makes it work is how Kirsty Greenwood weaves them in, making them feel fresh rather than cliché. It's like she gathered all the best rom-com elements and gave them a magical, afterlife makeover. While the first part of "The Love of My Afterlife" hooked me instantly, I have to admit, the middle section did feel a bit drawn out at times. I think some of the subplots or internal monologues could have been trimmed to maintain the pacing. However, if you stick with it, the emotional payoff is absolutely worth it. That visceral reaction I had to chapter 42? It wasn't just a tear or two; it was full-on, ugly crying. It hit me right in the feels, reminding me of that beautiful quote, 'Crying means you're feeling. That you're living. That you're loving.' This book truly embraces the highs and lows of emotion, making you feel deeply alongside the characters. If you’re a fan of books like 'The Dead Romantics' by Ashley Poston, or even movies with a similar vibe like 'Just Like Heaven' (you know, that Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo gem!), then you absolutely need to pick up 'The Love of My Afterlife.' It shares that charming blend of romance, humor, and a touch of the otherworldly that makes those stories so special. Kirsty Greenwood has a knack for creating characters you can’t help but root for, even when they’re making questionable afterlife decisions! For those wondering about Kirsty Greenwood's other work, 'Yours Truly' also showcases her signature wit and heartwarming style, but 'The Love of My Afterlife' really stands out for its imaginative premise. Whether you prefer reading on your Kindle or borrowing through the Libby app, this book is readily accessible and a perfect choice for a cozy read. It’s definitely one for your rom-com TBR pile, especially if you appreciate a story that isn't afraid to make you laugh, swoon, and yes, even shed a few tears.

Ooh yes! Love @alihazelwood as usual! This book features a perceived enemy and is kind of a slow burn, mainly because the protagonist, Rue, lacks emotional awareness. But I love a #greenflag guy! Some reviews say they don’t like this book as much as her others, but I kinda like it more. There
