Disobedience has Consequences
On a recent flight, I was reading an article that said, “If a plane is one degree off course for one hour, they will miss their final destination by approximately 1 nautical mile for every 60 nautical miles traveled. For a typical commercial airliner flying at roughly 500–600 mph, this means the plane will be off-track by about 8 to 10 miles after just one hour.”
What starts as a small deviation can have BIG consequences!
As I reflect on my own life, I am reminded that disobedience is rarely sudden or dramatic at the start. It often begins subtly—small compromises, delayed responses, or partial obedience. Over time, however, those small deviations can lead to significant consequences.
I don’t think disobedience just affects outcomes; it affects my heart.
When I repeatedly choose my own way, I begin to drift from sensitivity to God’s voice. What once felt clear becomes clouded. What once felt convicting begins to feel normal. This gradual shift is one of the most dangerous aspects of spiritual drift.
God’s commands are not arbitrary—they are protective, relational, and purposeful.
When He calls me to obedience, He is guiding me toward life, peace, and alignment with Him.
Disobedience, on the other hand, often leads me into regret, confusion, and distance.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
This verse reminds me that sin has consequences, but God’s grace offers restoration. Even when I fail, His invitation to return remains open. His discipline is not meant to condemn me, but to draw me back into alignment with Him.
I’ve come to see that obedience is not just about avoiding negative outcomes—it’s about embracing a better way. God’s way is not restrictive; it is life-giving.
The cost of disobedience is real, but so is the reward of walking closely with Him.
Today, I want to take the small decisions seriously. The private moments. The unseen choices that shape my direction. Faithfulness in those areas matters more than I often realize.
