Why are influencers making chip flavors now? 🤔

I saw @Frito Lay came out with Flavor Swap chips and decided to taste-test all 3 👀

The idea is that each chip swaps flavors with another brand: Doritos flavors on Ruffles, BBQ lays on Cheetos, etc. and the flavors were created by popular influencers like Madison Beer, Dude Perfect, and iShowSpeed

🥇 Ruffles x Doritos (Cool Ranch)

💵 Price: $4.49

My favorite by far! I thought they were just ok at first, but the flavor soon grew on me. It basically tastes like Cool Ranch but on a ridged potato chip, which actually works really well. The texture makes the flavor feel stronger and more snackable! I hope these stick around after the collab

❌ Doritos x Ruffles (Cheddar & Sour Cream)

💵 Price: $4.49

This one wasn’t bad, but the flavor was way too subtle for me. It tasted weaker than regular Nacho Cheese Doritos, so it was disappointing in that sense. I could see it being good with dips though!

❌ Cheetos x Lays (Sweet Southern Heat BBQ)

💵 Price: $4.89

Not my favorite. They lowkey tasted like hot dogs to me, but not in a good way

👩🏻‍⚖️ Verdict: Overall the Cool Ranch Ruffles collab was the clear winner for me!!

For those of you who have tried the flavor swaps -- do you agree with my ranking? 🤔💭

... Read moreThe world of snack innovation is always buzzing, and these 'Flavor Swap' chips from Frito Lay are definitely stirring up conversations! I've been seeing them everywhere, and the idea of iconic flavors jumping to different chip bases is just too intriguing to pass up. It's not everyday you see a beloved Doritos flavor on a Ruffles chip, or vice versa, so I decided to dive a little deeper into this trend. Let's talk about the specific combinations. Many of you, like me, are probably curious about the Doritos x Ruffles Cheddar & Sour Cream swap. The original article mentioned it was a bit subtle, and I totally get that. When you're used to the intense flavor of a classic Doritos tortilla chip, having that Cheddar & Sour Cream taste on a lighter tortilla chip can feel a bit understated. It's an interesting concept, though, taking a Ruffles flavor profile and putting it on a Doritos base. My personal take is that the ridged potato chip structure of Ruffles really helps hold onto those creamy, cheesy notes. On a smoother tortilla chip, the flavor seems to disperse differently. But, as the original review hinted, this specific bag could be a fantastic canvas for dips! Think a spicy salsa or a rich guacamole – the milder chip might just let the dip shine. Then there's the Ruffles x Doritos Cool Ranch swap. This one was a standout for many, including the original review. Putting the classic Cool Ranch flavor onto a ridged potato chip is genius! The ridges provide extra surface area for that iconic seasoning to cling to, and the potato chip base offers a satisfying crunch that really enhances the overall experience. It’s almost like discovering Cool Ranch all over again, but with a wonderfully familiar, hearty texture. It makes you wonder why this hasn't been a permanent fixture all along! And let's not forget the Cheetos x Lays Sweet Southern Heat BBQ on puffed cheese snacks. This one definitely offers a unique experience. When you think of Cheetos, you think cheesy and often spicy, while Lay's BBQ is usually sweet and smoky. Combining these on a puffed snack creates a really distinct profile. If you're someone who loves a sweet and savory kick, this could be your jam. For me, the 'hot dog' note mentioned in the original article might come from that blend of smokiness and a slightly tangy sweetness. It's a bold flavor choice, and certainly highlights how different snack bases (like these puffed cheese snacks) can completely transform a well-known flavor. These 'Flavor Swap' collaborations, often featuring influencers, seem to be a fun way for brands to experiment and engage with a wider audience. It's a clever strategy to get people talking and trying something new. What I've learned from trying these is that the chip's texture and composition play a huge role in how a flavor is perceived. So, next time you're in the snack aisle, don't be afraid to pick up one of these unique combinations and form your own opinion! You might find a new favorite, or at least have a fun taste-testing experience to share.
