Confessions of a Publisher 🌹
Not everyone will support you.
And honestly? That's okay.
I'm learning to get back to the why. Ask yourself what is your purpose on writing a book.
This book wasn't for applause.
It was an assignment.
And when I remember that, the silence from some people doesn't sting as much.
Your purpose doesn't need everyone's permission.

Writing a book can sometimes feel like a solitary and thankless task, especially when the support you hope for doesn’t materialize. From my experience in the self-publishing world, I've learned that not everyone will cheer you on—and that's perfectly okay. What truly matters is reconnecting with your core reason for writing, your "why." This deeper purpose acts like a compass that guides you through moments of doubt and silence. When I face lukewarm responses or no response at all, I remind myself that my book wasn’t created for external validation or applause. Instead, it was an assignment—something meaningful I needed to complete for myself, perhaps to share an important message or inspire others. The phrase "Gather Eyes Wide Open," which I often reflect upon, encourages us to be fully present and aware throughout this process. It’s about seeing clearly why your book matters, not getting distracted by the noise or lack thereof in your surroundings. I encourage fellow authors and creators to embrace this mindset: Your purpose does not require everyone’s permission or approval. Trusting your own mission can bring peace and renewed motivation when the silence of others might otherwise sting. This approach has helped me stay resilient and true to my path. If you’re struggling with feelings of discouragement, try writing down your original reasons for starting your project. Revisit those moments and reminders that initially sparked your passion. Sharing your journey with like-minded communities—whether through #selfpublishing, #writingcommunity, or faith-based groups like #christianinspiration—can also provide support and inspiration. Ultimately, every author’s path is unique, and the key is to keep your eyes wide open, stay focused on your "why," and let that purpose fuel your creative journey.
