The Washington Mews near Washington Square Park is a private gated street in Manhattan between fifth Avenue and university place just north of Washington square park. They sometimes leave the gate open, and i was lucky on a Wednesday evening that it was! The homes here are so charming and it definitely is a quiet respite from the city. Doesn’t feel like NYC at all. Originally it was a complex of stables owned by neighboring houses. Starting in 1950, NYU used these buildings for offices and housing staff.
