Coyote
3rd fav
It's truly incredible how adaptable coyotes are. Looking at these photos, you can see them thriving in so many different environments โ from wide-open grassy fields under a blue sky to snowy landscapes with trees in the background. I've even seen them near urban edges, like the one standing on an asphalt road with double yellow lines, or another perched on a concrete wall, which really shows how they've learned to coexist with us. Their appearance is just as striking. Those keen brown eyes and black nose, the intricate patterns of their fur โ each close-up shot really highlights their unique beauty. And seeing a young coyote pup lying in green grass? Absolutely melts your heart. It makes you wonder what their day-to-day life is like. Speaking of their lives, one common question I hear is about their diet, especially with the classic image of a coyote trying to catch a roadrunner! While they're incredibly opportunistic hunters, roadrunners are definitely on their menu, though they're notoriously hard to catch! Coyotes are true omnivores. They'll eat small mammals like rabbits and rodents, birds, insects, and even fruits and berries depending on the season. Their diet really reflects whatever is available in their local habitat, whether it's a dry vegetation area or a lush green one. I've often wondered about their vocalizations too, especially seeing one with its mouth wide open, almost as if yawning or vocalizing. Coyotes have a surprisingly wide range of calls, from yips and barks to howls, which they use to communicate with their pack, mark territory, or warn others. It's an amazing sound to hear in the wild, especially at dusk. Encountering a coyote, even just seeing one from afar in a rocky, grassy terrain or near a body of water, is always a special moment. They're such intelligent and resilient creatures, constantly on the move, looking slightly to the left or right, always aware of their surroundings. It reminds you of the wild beauty that still exists around us, even in unexpected places. They might be my 3rd favorite, but they're certainly fascinating!
