The Engine of Growth: "Revitalizing the City through the Port" (1990s-2000s)
The decision to open Ningbo Port to the world (1979) and become a coastal open city (1984) lit the fuse. Deng Xiaoping's call to "mobilize the 'Ningbo Gang' from all over the world" fueled the ambition.

1992: Ningbo Bonded Zone established (Zhejiang's first).

2015: Ningbo-Zhoushan Port topped the world in cargo throughput.
2018: GDP surpassed one trillion yuan.
2023: The built-up area reached a colossal 677.9 km²—an astonishing 84-fold increase from the 1980s!
The city now operates under a grand framework: "one core, two wings, three bays," with areas like the Eastern New Town and Qianwan New Area leading the future.
