Between 2008 and 2010, he embarked on at least five aircraft thefts, fleeing across states from Washington, Idaho, Indiana to the Bahamas. 🌎 Most planes often ended up crashing and landing emergencies (including the Cessna 182, where he flew over the Cascade Mountains more than 300 miles before running out of gas). 🛩️

In addition to the plane, he stole cars, speedboats, and committed more than 100 robberies in several parts of the U.S. and Canada. 🚗🛥️

The media and people call him "The Barefoot Bandit" 👣 because he often commits without his shoes, and many times he leaves chalk marks on his feet at the scene.

The hunt for him became a national operation that required the gathering of strength from the FBI, the Civil Aviation Department (FAA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) 🚔 until he was finally arrested in the Bahamas on July 11, 2010, after driving a stolen plane into a mangrove forest and trying to escape in a speedboat. 🌴🚤

The court sentenced him to 7 years in prison. ⚖️

His story was so out of the movie that the movie label, 20th Century Fox, committed over $1 million to buy the rights to his story into a movie 🎬, which part of the money he had to pay as compensation to all the victims.
