You know, on the top of Mount Everest, also known as the roof of the world, scientists have discovered fossils of ancient sea creatures! 🐚 The remains of creatures like Crinoids, Trilobites, Cephalopods and Brachiopods have been found embedded in a limestone layer called Qomolangma Limestone, at more than 13,000 feet above sea level.

This discovery is an important piece of evidence that before this mountain was formed, this area was the bottom of an ancient, shallow, warm tropical ocean about 450 million years ago! 🤯

So how did these marine carcasses get to that height? 🤔

The answer is that these animals lived in an ancient ocean called "Tethys." Over time, the sediment under the sea that buried their remains became rocky until about 50 million years ago, the Indian Continent crashed into the Eurasian Continent, and this huge impact pushed the sedimentary rock bottom of the ocean to fold and rise to the Himalayas. 🏔️

Even more surprisingly, this geological process is not over! Today, the Himalayas continue to rise by more than 1 / 3 inch (nearly 1 centimeter) every year from the constant pressure between the two plates. 💥

The discovery of marine fossils on this height is also one of the pieces of evidence supporting the Continental drift theory of scientist Alfred Wegener, who has proposed since 1915, which gives us a clear picture of how our surface never stops and is constantly changing. 🌍✨
