Know Skyranger, an air defense system from Germany that is sweeping orders across Europe! 🛡️
Skyranger is not just an armored vehicle, but born to proactively "hunt." Most recently, at ILA Berlin 2026, the Rheinmetall Company put Skyranger 30 on display, a version mounted on an 8x8 Boxer rubber-wheeled vehicle with a defendAir guided missile from the MBDA camp, allowing it to deal decisively with current and future air threats.
The technology highlights of this are:
🔹 uses a 30 mm automatic cannon (30mmx173 KCE) that can fire up to 3,000 metres.
🔹 Works with Programmable Smart Air Break Bullets (AHEAD), giving it very high accuracy to destroy small drones (Micro-drones).
🔹 has a built-in search radar and electro-optical sensor, allowing for 360-degree omnidirectional search and tracking of targets.
🔹 The turret itself is designed to be modular, so it can support the flexible deployment of additional close-range aircraft combat missiles (SHORAD).
Skyranger is now becoming the "new standard" of air defense systems in Europe under the European Sky Shield Initiative.
🇩🇪 Germany: An order for 19 Skyranger 30 armored vehicles on the Boxer platform has been placed and the first prototype has been successfully delivered as scheduled.
🇦🇹 Austria: It is the first customer in Europe to order 36 vehicles. It will be installed on Pandur EVO armoured vehicles.
🇳🇱 Netherlands: It just signed a hundred million euro big lot order last December 2025.
🇷🇴 Romania: Fully arranged order for the Skyranger 35 version of the system on the Lynx armored vehicle platform as part of a historic weapons supply package worth 5.7 billion euros.
In addition, both Denmark and Ukraine are preparing the system to strengthen air defense.
With global demand soaring, manufacturers are planning a serious expansion from 70 to 100 turrets a year to 400 turrets a year.
