💧, Cheyenne, Wyoming, U.S.A., issued a sewage dark control measure from a data center after the rare bacterium Cupriavidus gilardii was detected in the city's recycled water production system.

According to the Cheyenne Utilities Authority, BOPU, the infection was discovered during a system inspection in February 2026 before tracking the source to an industrial user and permanently terminating that person's sewage discharge rights.

U.S. media reported that the incident involved a contractor working on Meta's data center construction project, with water released during the cooling flush phase, or "fill-and-flush."

⚠️ Such infections are not legally controlled contaminants, and very few human infections have been reported, but they can create risks for the elderly and the immune vulnerable.

Reiterating that the city's drinking water system was not affected, Meta stated that the contractor stopped releasing the water immediately and removing it outside the area, while independent expert results at the company showed no such infection.
