☢️ China is expanding its nuclear arsenal the fastest in the world.
The latest SIPRI report estimates that China has about 620 nuclear warheads as of January 2026, up from about 600 warheads a year earlier, and is also on track to improve its nuclear power in three areas: ground-based missiles, ballistic submarines, and strategic aircraft.
One of the most watched changes was the construction of intercontinental ballistic missile silos, according to SIPRI. China has built or is nearing completion of about 350 silos, covering large silo fields in the north and mountainous areas in the east.
🛰️ Satellite images and analysis from revealed sources also indicate that China has begun to deploy missiles into some silo fields, but this does not mean that every silo has all its missiles or warheads. The distribution of many silos also creates uncertainty and increases the chances of surviving the first attack.
As to the assumption that these silos were all built for the DF-41, this cannot be confirmed yet, because analysts estimate that they may support multiple missile models, including the DF-31 family.
Despite China's nuclear stockpile being much smaller than the U.S. and Russia's, its rapid expansion is changing the strategic deterrence balance, and increasing the risk of a new round of arms cumulative competition.
