☢️ Russia and Belarus launch massive nuclear force exercise amid tensions with NATO
The May 2026 exercise covers many areas on land, air and sea, with an estimated strength of 64,000-65,000 troops participating, with over 200 missile launchers, more than 140 aircraft, 73 surface ships and 13 submarines.
🚀 The key highlight was that MiG-31 aircraft fired Kinzhal high-speed missiles while Belarusian units trained to operate the Iskander-M system and simulated warhead pick-up-move procedures; strategic bombers and missile-mounted submarines also participated in testing the command system.
Even without nuclear detonation, this exercise was not just a simulated scenario on the table, because some missiles were actually fired, with Moscow stating that it was a test of the readiness of deterrent forces under situations where the country faced a threat.
📌 However, the 65,000-man figure refers to the combined force spread across several areas of Russia, Belarus, and the maritime zone. Not all soldiers are included training in Belarus alone. Also, most of the details are from the Russian side and also limited independent verification.
The exercise is therefore both a test of the command system, and a strategic signal directed to NATO that nuclear weapons are also the core of Russian defense.
