🇺🇦🇬🇧 Ukraine is moving from being an arms recipient to manufacturing Western systems on its own after BAE Systems signed an licensing agreement with a Ukrainian defense company to support the production of a version of the L119 light artillery tailored to the Ukrainian military.
Under the agreement, the Ukrainian side will receive technical information and assistance from BAE Systems for the construction of the first gun in the country, to be tested before development to the next stage. 🔧
The L119 is a 105-mm towing cannon, weighing about 1.86 tons, with a firing range of about 17 kilometers. The highlight is that it is fast-moving, towed by military vehicles or airlifted, so it is suitable for units that have to fire and change positions quickly.
If the project actually passes the test and expands production capacity, Ukraine will shorten transportation time, streamline maintenance, and build replacement parts closer to the area of use.
⚠️ However, this is still the stage to build a prototype gun for testing BAE Systems. It is not yet revealed how many will be produced, scheduled for delivery, or mass start date. Therefore, it should not be concluded that the L119 has left the production line in Ukraine.
