Crying, but Still Believing
One of the biggest revelations from Psalm 42 was realizing that tears do not mean the absence of faith.
The Psalmist said:
“My tears have been my meat day and night.”
Yet he never stopped talking to God.
That challenged me because sometimes we think strong faith means never struggling.
But Psalm 42 shows us something different.
Faith can look like:
🤍 crying and still believing
🤍 grieving and still trusting
🤍 hurting and still praying
🤍 waiting and still hoping
Maybe your tears are not proof that God has left you.
Maybe they are evidence that you are still reaching for Him in the middle of the storm.
And that takes courage.
“I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” 🙌🏽

Reflecting on my own experiences, I’ve come to understand that emotional exhaustion and spiritual depletion—feelings similar to those hinted at in Psalm 42—are part of many faith journeys. Tears, rather than being a sign of doubt or disconnection, often represent the deep, ongoing dialogue with God amidst life’s storms. Like the Psalmist who described tears as "meat day and night," I’ve realized that crying can be a form of spiritual expression and strength. During times of grief or hardship, these emotional releases do not mean faith is absent; instead, they show that faith is alive, fragile, yet persistent. For me, continuing to reach out in prayer and maintaining hope even when overwhelmed by sorrow brings a sense of peace and connection that cannot be measured by visible joy alone. Spiritual growth often comes through wrestling with emotions, not despite them. Trusting in God while acknowledging pain allowed me to experience healing that is emotional and spiritual. This journey has taught me that faith is not about perfection or constant strength but about courageously holding on and praising God even when your countenance reflects weariness. If you’re navigating your own healing journey or facing emotional challenges, remember Psalm 42’s powerful truth: tears may be abundant, but so is faith when you keep talking, praying, hoping, and ultimately praising God amid it all. This balance between vulnerability and belief can transform how you view your faith journey and emotional healing.
