I used AI + free tools, going from experimenting to launching a real agency.
Some tools I used to get started were:
- ChatGPT - for content & site generation
- Figma - for free marketing templates & designs
- Notion - to track my daily progress & tasks
- Replit - to streamline client development
Tip: You don’t need thousands of dollars. Start with what you have + a free ChatGPT subscription.
⤷ Escaping My 9-5
I realized I could apply my coding and design skills to build real projects. But I didn’t know where to start.
I played a lot with ChatGPT to brainstorm niches:
“List 10 profitable niches for a solo developer to start an agency in 2025.”
I landed some of my first clients in:
- Real Estate
- Cleaning Services
- Education Apps
- Startup Companies
⤷ Connecting With Like-Minded People
I posted on LinkedIn, told friends/family I build sites, and joined dev communities.
This helped me get my first referral client and second client from Upwork.
Step 2: Prompt ChatGPT to write your first outreach post:
“Write a LinkedIn post announcing I’m building websites for small businesses and offering a free consultation.”
⤷ Freelancing Opened Doors
After creating 3-4 sites as practice projects, I shared them on Upwork & Fiverr.
Every site was developed with ChatGPT—front to back.
Step 3: Ask ChatGPT:
“Write a Fiverr gig description for a web developer specializing in affordable, responsive small business websites.”
