Replying to @Monica ✨ I did this for the Gworls! Do with that information what you will!
After my previous post about what men might be up to when they visit Colombia, I've had so many of you lovely gworls ask about Colombian men themselves! It's such an important topic, and it’s a completely different conversation from what we discussed before. As someone who's spent time here and had many conversations with locals, I wanted to share some insights to help you navigate those waters. First off, culture is a huge factor. Colombian men often grow up in tight-knit families, and family values are incredibly important to them. You'll likely see a deep respect for mothers and elders, and expect them to be very involved with their siblings and extended family. This can be a beautiful aspect of their character, showing loyalty and a strong sense of belonging. When it comes to dating, chivalry is often alive and well. Don't be surprised if they open doors, insist on paying for dates, or walk on the street side to protect you. Gestures like bringing flowers or writing heartfelt messages are not uncommon. They tend to be very passionate and expressive, which can be incredibly romantic. Compliments might flow freely, and they're not shy about showing affection in public. However, it’s also important to be aware that machismo, a concept of exaggerated masculinity, can sometimes be present. While not all Colombian men embody this, understanding its cultural roots can help you distinguish between genuine affection and something that might feel overbearing. It's about finding that balance and communicating your boundaries clearly. Communication styles can also differ. Colombian men are often direct and passionate, both in conversation and in expressing their feelings. They might be quicker to declare their feelings or intentions than men from other cultures. This can be refreshing, but it's always wise to take your time and observe actions as much as words, as with any relationship. If you're thinking about places like MedellÃn, which I mentioned earlier, it's often seen as a vibrant city with a lively social scene. While it has a reputation for nightlife, it's also a hub for culture, art, and entrepreneurship. A Colombian man from MedellÃn might be incredibly proud of his city's transformation and resilience, showcasing its beautiful side beyond the stereotypes. When it comes to historical sites like the 'Escobar Tour' or 'Comuna 13' (Community 13), while they represent a difficult past, many Colombian men have a profound connection to their country's history and its journey towards peace and progress. They might appreciate discussing these topics with a nuanced perspective, focusing on the lessons learned and the strength of their community, rather than just the sensational aspects. This can be a great way to connect on a deeper level and understand their patriotism. My advice, gworls, is always to approach any new relationship with an open mind but also with clear boundaries. Every man is an individual, and generalizations can be misleading. However, having a general understanding of cultural norms can empower you to better interpret actions and intentions. Look for genuine connection, respect, and shared values. Don't be afraid to ask questions and engage in meaningful conversations. It’s about building a connection based on mutual understanding and appreciation for each other’s backgrounds.
