Hey everyone! I'm so excited to dive a bit deeper into my recent Decora Kei Deku fanart. When I first thought about drawing Izuku Midoriya in a different style, Decora Kei instantly popped into my head. Why, you ask? Well, Izuku is already such a sweet, earnest character, and the super colorful, maximalist aesthetic of Decora Kei just felt like the perfect, unexpected match to bring out an even cuter, more vibrant side of him! I really wanted to create something that would fit the adorable cute Deku fanart vibe, but with a unique twist. For this piece, I really wanted to capture the essence of a 'Decora boy' – playful, bold, and full of joy. I started by imagining what kind of outfit Deku would wear if he fully embraced this style. That’s how I landed on the idea of those bright pink overalls, which I adorned with a bunch of cute patches. You can spot a little rainbow, some hearts, and even the Korean word '여보' (yeobo) which means 'honey' or 'darling' – just a little quirky detail I loved adding! Underneath, an orange turtleneck added another layer of contrasting color, really leaning into that signature Decora 'more is more' philosophy. One of my favorite parts of the Decora Kei aesthetic is the facial decorations and hair accessories. I had so much fun adding those colorful face and hair stickers, imagining Deku meticulously placing each one to express his cheerful personality. His spiky green hair, usually a focal point, got an extra dose of fun with these additions. The goal was to make him look like he just stepped out of Harajuku, ready to brighten anyone's day! Getting the decora kei drawing just right meant paying attention to all these tiny, adorable details. I chose a soft blue background to make all those vibrant colors pop, and added falling pink petals to give it an extra dreamy, whimsical feel. It’s all about creating an aesthetic that’s both chaotic and harmonious. This drawing really pushed me to experiment with color palettes and layering in a way I hadn’t before. It’s fascinating how combining elements from MHA with a distinct fashion subculture like Decora Kei can create such a fresh look.
