WORSHIP SONGWRITING CHALLENGE!

Hey everyone! So glad you're here. You know, sometimes the best way to get your creative juices flowing is with a fun challenge. That's exactly what I found with the 5-Minute Worship Songwriting Challenge – Jesus Edition! I was amazed at what I could come up with in such a short amount of time, and it really reignited my passion for writing. For this challenge, the goal was simple: write a worship song about Jesus in just five minutes. No overthinking, just letting the words flow. I focused on themes of reliance, God's faithfulness, and His unchanging nature, which are so central to my faith. Here are some of the lines that came to me during that fast-paced session, straight from my heart: 'RELYING ON HIS / FROM WHATEVER I / AM GOING THROUGH / CAUSE I KNOW / THAT HE IS MY GOD / HE WILL STAY / HE WILL BE CHANGE / EVERY SINGLE DAY / I CAN COUNT / ON HIM / MY STRENGTH / AND I WILL / PRAISING HIS NAME / OH I LOVE MY GOD' It’s incredible how quickly you can express deep feelings when you’re under a bit of a time crunch! This challenge really showed me that you don't need hours or days to create something meaningful. Sometimes, just setting a timer and letting go of perfectionism is all it takes. If you're an aspiring worship songwriter, or even just someone who loves Christian music and wants to try their hand at creating, I highly recommend trying a similar challenge. Here are a few tips I’ve picked up: Start with a Core Theme: What aspect of God or your faith do you want to celebrate? Is it His love, His strength, His grace? For me, it was His unwavering presence and how I can always count on Him. Keep it Simple: Especially for a first draft or a quick challenge, don't worry about complex metaphors or intricate melodies. Focus on honest, heartfelt words. Use Scripture as Inspiration: The Bible is a treasure trove of inspiration for worship songs. A verse or a passage can spark an entire song. Listen to Other Worship Music: Pay attention to the themes, song structures, and lyrical patterns in your favorite worship songs, whether it's the powerful anthems of Bethel or the heartfelt honesty of Lauren Daigle. This isn't about copying, but about understanding what resonates. Don't Be Afraid to Improvise: Sometimes, just humming a tune or speaking out loud what's on your heart can lead to lyrics and melodies. Seek Out Resources: If you're looking to play existing worship songs, there are many online resources where you can find chords and lyrics for popular Christian artists. Knowing how others structure their songs can be a great learning tool. This challenge was a fantastic reminder that creativity isn't about waiting for inspiration; it's about showing up and doing the work, even for just five minutes.
