Why I do my own nails

📒Notes:

So one, my older sister used to do her own nails since I was a little girl and they were always inspiring, eventually I wanted to them myself

- Now at first I wasn’t into the nails, I was totally a “how do you even wipe-“ question goer, and I grew up

- I think it’s a lot move convenient to do my own nails when I want, how I want, without spending thousands of dollars 💸

-And there’s nothing like having a good binge show while you drill your acrylic or lay your gel coats (No shade to you if you like going out, that’s you, congrats 🎉 )

Aaanyway that’s all for now byye #nails #blackgirllifestyle #selfcare #acrylicnails

It might seem daunting at first, but trust me, it's incredibly rewarding. I remember when I first started, feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options, but with a few essentials and a dash of patience, you'll be creating beautiful looks in no time. The journey itself is part of the fun, and seeing your own unique designs come to life is truly satisfying. One of the biggest questions I get is, 'What do I even need to begin?' For beginners, I'd strongly suggest starting with a good quality gel polish kit – it's often more forgiving and easier to work with than acrylics initially. You'll definitely want a reliable UV/LED lamp, a base coat, a top coat for that perfect shine, and a few color polishes to kick things off. Don't forget essential tools like nail files, buffers, and a cuticle pusher. As you get more comfortable, investing in some decent brushes for detail work can make a huge difference, especially if you dream of intricate patterns, delicate designs like those lovely gold star and crescent moon embellishments, or even fun strawberry and heart designs I've enjoyed creating. My top tip for anyone new to this is practice, practice, practice! Don't be discouraged if your first few sets aren't perfect; mine certainly weren't! Start with simple designs to build your confidence. Maybe try a solid color first, then gradually move on to something a little more adventurous like a glitter ombre, or just adding a few simple gems. I love trying out different nail shapes—from classic square-shaped nails to trendy stiletto-shaped nails, and even elegant almond-shaped nails or bold coffin-shaped nails. Each shape offers a unique canvas for your creative expression! Another game-changer for me was watching tutorials online. There are so many amazing creators who generously share their techniques for everything from laying gel coats smoothly to applying acrylics flawlessly. You'll learn how to properly prep your nails, which is absolutely crucial for longevity, and how to safely use a nail drill if you decide to venture into acrylics. Remember that creative freedom I talked about? This is where it truly shines! You can literally bring any vision to life, whether it's elegant black lattice patterns, playful pink bows, dazzling pearls, or even vibrant red tips. It’s all about experimenting, having fun, and finding what unique styles you love to wear. Finally, beyond the aesthetics, don't forget the wonderful self-care aspect of doing your own nails. For me, it’s not just about the beautiful outcome; it’s the entire process. Putting on my favorite show, having a quiet moment, and focusing on creating something beautiful with my hands is incredibly therapeutic. It’s a wonderful way to express yourself, unwind, and feel pampered without the hefty salon price tag. Plus, there's a fantastic community of DIY nail enthusiasts out there who share tips and inspiration! Give it a try – you might just surprise yourself with what amazing creations you can achieve, and how much you'll love the journey!
