Please Don’t Get Taken Down
I really like lemon8 and I think it’s a great place to get advice from people with similar struggles even if they’re silly small things (like song suggestions and stuff). It’s great that how as women we’r all able to be honest with each other, but some of these people are too honest 😭
It feels like every other book haul or recommendation post is for “spicy😜” books. These girls are listing off their favorite reads and ALL of it is straight up just written p*rnography. Just because you’re a girl and it’s written doesn’t make your p*rn addiction less pathetic than a man’s film addiction. I understand some people do struggle with it and that’s okay, indulgence is something almost every human being engages in. But it’s hard to not be judgemental when it’s the only type of book they read and they’re actively showing it off like they’re proud of it. Your “spicy” books do not make you quirky, they make you a gooner, so stop trying to pass it off as a silly little trait and just be honest with yourself 😟
I probably shouldn’t be as annoyed with this but I guess the part that’s the most upsetting is they’re just casually promoting p*rn on here because it’s written, not visual. Not everyone wants to be blasted with dark romance (grape fantasy) with every book recommendation post. I’ve seen photos of pages with the words included in these posts too, it’s not like it’s just the cover!! I don’t see anyone here posting nsfw videos or images, so how come vivid descriptions of girls being stalked and assaulted are allowed??
I understand people who don’t like it could just scroll, but it’s damaging to normalize this (for both people who post these things and the people who consume the content these creators post.)
I tried to censor words but idk it still might get taken down erm. Also the age rating for lemon8 is 12+ on the App Store, I feel like I don’t have to elaborate.
Edit: I can’t believe saying “post p8rn on 18+ sites instead of a 12+ app and stop trying to normalize, downplay, or diminish p*rn addictions” was such a controversial take

It's truly disheartening to see a platform with so much potential for genuine connection and shared interests struggle with content moderation, especially when it concerns something as fundamental as age-appropriateness. When I first joined Lemon8, I envisioned a vibrant, supportive 'lifestyle community' where we could exchange ideas, tips, and personal experiences across a wide range of topics. I loved seeing unique fashion finds, wholesome recipe ideas, and inspiring travel diaries. It felt like a safe space for creativity and positive interaction. However, the increasing visibility of 'spicy' book recommendations has undeniably shifted the atmosphere for many of us. It makes you pause and question the platform's direction, particularly when you consider the official '12+ Years Old' rating prominently displayed on its app store listing. It really makes you wonder, as that meme screenshot perfectly puts it, 'Why are we normalizing p*rn on this app' when the target audience includes young teenagers? This isn't about shaming anyone's personal reading preferences. Adult romance has its place, and there are countless platforms dedicated to mature content. The core issue lies in the context: is a general lifestyle app, marketed to a broad and often young demographic, the appropriate place for explicit content to be casually shared and celebrated? When visual summaries or even direct page snippets of books containing themes like stalking, assault, or graphic sexual acts appear in my feed, it’s not just a matter of ‘scrolling past.’ It impacts the overall user experience and can make the community feel less inclusive and safe for everyone. As users, we also have a role to play in shaping the community we want to be a part of. If you encounter content that you believe violates guidelines or is inappropriate for the platform's age rating, reporting it is a constructive step. Additionally, actively seeking out and promoting diverse, wholesome content helps to counterbalance the trend. Let's champion creators who share genuine lifestyle tips, creative projects, uplifting stories, or even just fun, lighthearted readings that align with a broad, family-friendly appeal. For those who genuinely enjoy 'spicy' romance, there are many dedicated online communities and platforms where you can share your passion without inadvertently exposing younger audiences or those who prefer not to see such content. Perhaps creators could consider using more ambiguous terms or hinting at mature themes without explicit descriptions or imagery on a general platform like Lemon8, or simply direct followers to other spaces. Ultimately, fostering a truly inclusive and positive 'lifestyle community' on Lemon8 means being mindful of the diverse audience we share this space with. It’s about ensuring that everyone, especially younger users, feels comfortable and respected, allowing the platform to genuinely flourish as a source of inspiration and connection.

💯valid. I also hate those type of books😭
