Health is wealth
From personal experience, embracing nature right outside your door has transformed my well-being in ways I never imagined. Starting a simple garden with familiar plants like lettuce—a member of the daisy family—can be incredibly rewarding and therapeutic. Gardening not only provides fresh produce but also connects you to the natural rhythms of the seasons, reducing stress and encouraging physical activity. I also discovered the joy of backyard camping, especially on weekends when a quick escape from screens and daily worries is needed. Setting up a tent, packing essentials like a backpack, plenty of water to stay hydrated, healthy snacks, and sunscreen creates a mini-adventure that recharges your energy. Interestingly, more Americans choose camping over basketball, a trend that reflects a growing appreciation for outdoor experiences. Birdwatching is another delightful way to engage with nature. With over 650 species native to the continental U.S., I challenged myself to identify at least three birds in my neighborhood, turning casual walks into educational and mindful excursions. This simple activity enhances awareness and fosters a deeper connection with your environment. Finally, you don’t need to travel far to enjoy nature’s benefits. Over 245 million Americans live within 100 miles of a national forest or grassland, but countless nature experiences are accessible in your own backyard. Unplugging and spending time outdoors supports both physical health and mental clarity, proving that investing time in nature truly embodies the idea that "health is wealth."
